5 Quick and Easy Decorating Tips for Summer
Like all seasonal decorating, summer decor should be simple and impactful. From using items you already own, to transforming things with paint or by adding a few new purchases, here are my 5 Tips for Quick and Easy Decorating this summer!
Tip #1 - Fresh Cuttings and/or Flowers From the Garden
My favourite free tip is to use fresh cut flowers and/or greens from your backyard (or friends and family — ask permission though!). I don’t know about you, but I have to keep up with trimming my garden bushes in the summer. Instead of composting all of the cuttings, I bring them inside and put them in one of the many containers/vases/jugs I have. Super simple and summery!
Tip #2 - Container Gardening
For instant colour and texture in outdoor areas, use planters both small and large. As well as an existing perennial garden, this year I used ferns, plants with flowers, rosemary plants and a lemon tree on my deck to create little “moments”.
Tip #3 - New Summer Pillows
We all know that switching out your pillows is one of the easiest and cost effective ways to freshen up your decor, right? This is true for both indoor and outdoor decorating in the summer months.
Tip #4 - Give Worn Outdoor Pieces New Life With Paint
From wood, to metal to plastic, almost every imaginable thing in your backyard is paintable now! It’s kind of amazing, really. So often, what we have on our deck or patio is structurally sound and it’s only the finish that needs refreshing. The great thing about painting your pieces is that you can also easily and cost effectively update your colour scheme! Good for the environment and your wallet!
Tip #5 - Decorating with Succulents
Succulents have been all the rage for a few years now. There’s a reason and that is because they are relatively easy to grow and they’re kinda cute! If they are in your garden, they will come up each year. They may even survive a planter over the window (mine have in the past). They also work beautifully in the home all year, so you can just bring them in when the weather starts to cool in the fall.
